articulate: about articulate

About articulate

articulate is a dance film created by Embrace Performance. The piece is a celebration of the original electronic music score created by a team of three youth composers, and Embrace’s Director of Music programming, Erin Koop. The youth composers range in age from 8 - 12 years old.

articulate is performed by a group of disabled, and non-disabled dance artists and consists of a series of 9 structured improvisations. Each piece is based on a different childhood games like hide and seek, hopscotch, and pass. Director Tiffany Tjosvold explains, “This whole project, from the process of creation, to the final product has really focused on the idea that ‘Play is an important form of communication.’ It’s our hope as a team that this piece will excite youth and adult audiences alike.”

The cast of articulate in a tight cluster. Andrew sits on the floor with his feet spread wide and his hands on his ears. Max leans forward on all fours with an inquistive finger raised. Devon squats and points two fingers at the camera. Claire is seated in her wheelchair and tosses up a peace sign. Tiffany stands leaning with one hand out to the side in confusion.
