Ottalie Garvin is a member of the Embrace Arts Foundation board, and a student at the University of Victoria.
Ottalie first became involved with Embrace through her friendship with our founder, Tiffany Tjosvold. Of Tiffany, Ottalie particularly appreciates her never ending effort to make people feel comfortable with what they are already doing, and what they can do.
For Ottalie, dance has been essential for bolstering her self-esteem. She never thought she could dance on a stage, let alone that people would want to watch her perform. Ottalie is passionate about dance because it is a creative outlet and a physical way to connect with people, her own emotions, and the world at large.
When Ottalie dances, she feels stripped bare of all technical barriers, and is able to express whatever she wants to express through different mediums of movement and performance.
Ottalie hopes to extend her dance practice by venturing into choreographing, and employing another facet of creative performance to connect with her inner self and the world around her.
